The first official trailer for A24’s Onslaught has arrived, and director Adam Wingard is bringing audiences back into the twisted world of The Guest with a brutal new action-horror spectacle.

The footage introduces three masked killers who tear through everything in their path like unstoppable weapons. Rather than traditional slashers, these relentless murderers are described as human heat-seeking missiles, turning every encounter into a blood-soaked fight for survival.

Fans of The Guest will have even more reason to be excited. Wingard has confirmed that Onslaught takes place in the same universe as his 2014 cult favorite, expanding the mysterious government program that created Dan Stevens’ unforgettable character, David.

“I look at this as a cap in the trilogy between The Guest and You’re Next,” Wingard explained. “It’s not a direct sequel in terms of continuing those characters, but it takes place in the same town as The Guest. The secret programs we’re seeing here are other aspects of the same thing David came from.”

Wingard even admitted that the film could technically be considered a sequel because it shares the same universe and mythology.

Written by longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, Onslaught stars Adria Arjona as a battle-hardened Army sniper forced into a deadly fight when a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers escapes into the desert.

Official synopsis:

When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers breaks loose in the desert, a fearless Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.

The cast also includes Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens, Michael Biehn, Reginald VelJohnson, Eric Wareheim, Drew Starkey, and former UFC champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira.

Onslaught arrives exclusively in theaters on September 4 and has been rated R for strong bloody violence, some gore, sexual material/nudity, and language.

With Wingard blending the brutal home-invasion intensity of You’re Next, the mysterious conspiracy of The Guest, and the relentless energy of a classic slasher, Onslaught is shaping up to be one of this year’s most anticipated horror releases.
