Andrew Traucki (The Reef) to Direct Crocodile Survival Thriller ‘Ulu’
The Reef and Black Water filmmaker Andrew Traucki is diving back into dangerous waters with a new high-concept survival thriller, Ulu.
According to Deadline, Alliance Media Partners will launch worldwide sales on the project at next month’s European Film Market in Berlin.
Inspired by true events and set deep within the rarely filmed river systems and rainforests of Borneo, Ulu follows a group of outsiders and locals who converge in a remote river basin. As tensions rise, a string of violent encounters reveals the terrifying truth: a massive, fiercely territorial crocodile—long dismissed as legend—has been forced into deadly proximity with humans.
The film is produced by Borneo Pictures, with Traucki also serving as co-producer. Visual effects duties will be led by Formation Effects founder Steve Boyle, whose credits include Anaconda and Beast of War.
“Andrew Traucki is a proven master of survival cinema,” said Alliance Media Partners Head of Sales, Acquisitions & Distribution Anthony Buckner. “Ulu combines an extraordinary setting, a formidable crocodile, and a highly experienced team whose credits include The Revenant, Lone Survivor, Edge of the World, and The Reef. We’re also thrilled to be working with Steve Boyle on bringing this creature to life.”
Traucki describes Ulu as a fully immersive experience. “Ulu is designed as a visceral theatrical experience,” he said. “The river, the jungle, and the crocodile are all active forces in the story. It’s a survival thriller rooted in real environments, real pressures, and real consequences.”
