Ana de Armas to Star in Psychological Thriller ‘Sweat’
Ana de Armas (Knives Out, Ballerina) is set to headline the psychological thriller Sweat, an English-language remake of Magnus von Horn’s 2020 Polish film of the same name, according to Variety.
The film will be directed by J Blakeson (I Care a Lot, The 5th Wave), returning to the genre with a story steeped in obsession, image, and control.
De Armas stars as Emma Kent, an ambitious fitness influencer chasing the level of fame enjoyed by her idol, social media powerhouse Kat Highbrook. When a meeting with Kat takes a dark and unexpected turn, Emma’s meticulously constructed online persona begins to unravel.
Desperate to keep her grip on success, Emma becomes entangled in a dangerous arrangement with Trent, an obsessive fan whose disturbing devotion forces her to confront how far she’s willing to go to stay relevant.
Sweat will be financed and co-produced by Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios, alongside Guy Stodel through Rosto Inc. and Blakeson under his Crimple Beck banner.
AGC International will handle worldwide sales, with WME Independent, CAA Media Finance, and AGC jointly representing U.S. distribution rights.
Production is scheduled to begin March 30 in Los Angeles and the UK, with additional casting currently underway.
