From the fog of ancient legend, a forgotten war goddess rises in the trailer for The Morrigan.

The Irish folk horror film arrives on Digital February 3 via Cineverse, the parent company of Bloody Disgusting.

The story follows an archaeologist who specializes in Gaelic mythology as she travels with her rebellious teenage daughter to a remote region of Ireland. What begins as academic research quickly turns deadly when an ancient tomb is disturbed, unleashing The Morrigan — a vengeful pagan war goddess with a thirst for blood. Trapped far from help, mother and daughter must fight to survive as myth bleeds into reality.

The film stars Saffron Burrows (Deep Blue Sea), James Cosmo (Braveheart), Emily Flain, Art Parkinson (Game of Thrones), and Toby Stephens (Die Another Day).

Written and directed by Colum Eastwood, The Morrigan expands on his 2015 short film of the same name. The feature is produced by Ashley Holberry and Gavin Cosmo Mehrtens under the Cowboy Cosmonaut banner.

“This film is deeply personal to me, drawing on the stories and landscapes I grew up with,” Eastwood said. “Seeing The Morrigan find a home with Cineverse is incredibly gratifying.”

International sales will be handled by AMP, which will present the film to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin next month.
