If you thought last year’s Marshmallow was just a sweet summer camp slasher, think again—it was more like R.L. Stine meets Friday the 13th, and now the terror is returning.
Variety reports that Hemlock Circle Productions is developing a sequel to their indie horror hit, bringing back the original creative team and cast.
Director Daniel DelPurgatorio, writer Andy Greskoviak (Black Friday), and actors Kue Lawrence, Kai Cech, Dylan Friedman, and Max Malas are all set to return, ready to dive back into the woods—and the nightmares that lurk there.
Set years after the events of the first film, the sequel explores the lingering trauma left behind—not just on the world, but on the survivors themselves. The story promises to plunge into darker territory, expanding the mythology while shattering any remaining sense of safety as consequences finally come due.
“Marshmallow opened the door to a world that still has a lot of dark corners left to explore,” said Hemlock Circle co-founder Todd Friedman. “We’ve always believed there was more story to tell, and the response from audiences has only reinforced that.”
In the original film, 12-year-old Morgan Kim fears summer camp—but when a masked figure from legend comes to life, he must conquer his fears, protect his friends, and uncover the deadly secret of Camp Almar before it’s too late.
For those who haven’t braved it yet, Marshmallow is currently streaming on Shudder, AMC+, and Hoopla—and the sequel promises that things in the woods are about to get a whole lot darker.
