Maya Hawke and Lewis Pullman in ‘Wishful Thinking’

Fresh off the final chapter of Stranger Things, Maya Hawke is leaning into something a little stranger—and a lot more heartfelt—with Wishful Thinking.

Hawke stars opposite Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts**) in the newly revealed first image from the science fiction romantic comedy, which hints at a love story with cosmic consequences. The still captures the pair locked in an intimate embrace, but beneath the surface, reality itself may be at risk.

In the film, a volatile couple discovers that their emotional highs and lows have supernatural effects on the world around them. As their relationship spirals, they’re forced to confront an impossible question: fight for love, or walk away before their powerful connection causes irreversible damage.

Wishful Thinking marks the feature directorial debut of writer-director Graham Parkes and is set to premiere next month at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

The supporting cast includes Randall Park (WandaVision), TikTok creator Jake Shane, Kate Berlant (Sorry to Bother You), Amita Rao (Adults), and Eric Rahill (The Paper).

Producing the project are Doctor Who fan favorite Matt Smith alongside Pullman, Kara Durrett (Caddo Lake), and Dan Gedman.
