Tim Burton Taps ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Writers for ‘Attack of the 50 Foot Woman’ Remake
Fresh off the success of KPop Demon Hunters, screenwriters Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are leveling up in a very big way.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo has been tapped to write Tim Burton’s upcoming remake of the sci-fi horror cult classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman for Warner Bros.
The project was first announced back in 2024, with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn previously attached, having penned an earlier draft of the script. Now, Jimenez and McMechan are stepping in to bring a new voice — and a lot of righteous rage — to the reimagining.
Originally released in 1958, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman follows a wealthy socialite who grows to monstrous proportions after an alien encounter, turning her fury toward her unfaithful husband. It’s a premise that feels tailor-made for a modern update, and the writers are clearly leaning into its cathartic potential.
“We’re obsessed with the idea of a fifty-foot woman wreaking havoc because a man did her dirty,” Jimenez and McMechan said in a statement. “We have a feeling a lot of people will relate.”
Burton is set to direct and produce the film, alongside Andrew Mittman (Wednesday, Together) and Tommy Harper (Wednesday, Top Gun: Maverick). LuckyChap (Promising Young Woman, Birds of Prey) is also producing and developing the project, with Morgan Begg overseeing and Kai Dolbashian serving as executive producer.
This won’t be the first attempt to remake the title — Christopher Guest directed a 1993 HBO version starring Daryl Hannah — but with Burton at the helm and Jimenez and McMechan on scripting duty, this iteration is shaping up to be the most ferocious yet.
