Heading into its third weekend in theaters, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is still dominating the horror box office—and it just crossed a major milestone.

Director Emma Tammi’s sequel has now clawed its way to $201.8 million worldwide, with $108.9 million coming from domestic theaters alone. With a reported production budget between $36–50 million, the sequel is shaping up to be another massive win for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse.

Much like its predecessor, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has proven to be nearly review-proof. The film currently holds a brutal 16% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, while audience reactions paint a very different picture, sitting at a strong 85% user score—a clear sign that fans of the video game franchise are embracing the chaos, even if critics are calling it a lump of holiday coal.

Adding to the good news, the animatronic nightmare is coming home just in time for the holidays. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will debut on digital platforms Tuesday, December 23, making it a very twisted Christmas treat.

The film will be available to buy or rent digitally on December 23, 2025, followed by a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on February 17, 2026, via Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Fans diving in at home can expect a stacked lineup of bonus features, including cast interviews, behind-the-scenes looks at how fan-favorite animatronics like Mangle and Marionette were brought to life, and deep dives into the Easter eggs hidden throughout the film.

EXCLUSIVE BONUS FEATURES (AT PARTICIPATING RETAILERS):

  • Employees of the Month: The Cast – Interviews and behind-the-scenes footage exploring how the actors expanded the FNAF lore.
  • Bringing Freddy & Friends to Life – A look at how stunt performers and puppeteers elevated the animatronic terror.
  • Mangle Mayhem – A breakdown of Mangle’s transformation into a nightmarish, multi-limbed monstrosity.
  • High-Strung – How the Marionette’s eerie design and movements were crafted to unsettle audiences.
  • Sensory Overload: Exploring the Sets – A guided tour through the film’s Easter eggs and game-inspired environments.

The sequel’s official synopsis reads:

One year after the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a shocking new chapter of terror begins when former security guard Mike’s sister, Abby, sneaks out in search of her animatronic friends: Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.

As terrifying events begin to unfold, dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s are revealed, unleashing a forgotten horror hidden away for decades.

Returning cast members include Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Theodus Crane, and Matthew Lillard, with newcomers Skeet Ulrich, Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Megan Fox joining the franchise.

Once again, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop handled the animatronic designs, ensuring Freddy and company remain just as unsettling—if not more—than before.
