‘Backrooms’ Movie Teaser from A24 Promises Liminal Horror in May 2026
Inspired by Japanese folklore, the upcoming Thai monster movie Omukade is gearing up to unleash a full-blown yokai nightmare, and a brand-new teaser trailer has slithered online. You can check it out below.
The film is directed by Pakphum Wongjinda and Chalit Krileadmongkon, the duo behind the creature feature The 100 (released in the U.S. as Creepy Crawly). At this time, Omukade has not yet secured U.S. distribution, but we’ll keep you posted as release details emerge.
And yes—this one boasts an absolutely unhinged monster design that needs to be seen to be believed.
Starring Narilya Gulmongkolpech (The Medium), Daung (The Only Mom), James Laver (The Cave), Yasaka Chaisorn (The Medium), along with Hideki Nagayama and Ryota Omi, Omukade blends historical horror with large-scale creature chaos.
Set during World War II, when Japan occupied Thailand, the story unfolds inside a cursed mine where Japanese soldiers and their prisoners become trapped deep underground. As hostility between enemies reaches a boiling point, something far worse emerges—an ancient, monstrous presence lurking in the darkness.
Faced with an unspeakable terror, the boundaries between ally and adversary begin to collapse. Survival demands unity, even among sworn enemies.
According to the filmmakers, Omukade is designed to be more than a monster movie, framing its supernatural carnage as an anti-war statement that explores how humanity’s greatest threat isn’t each other—but the horrors we awaken.
Stay tuned for more on Omukade as this giant centipede nightmare crawls closer.
