Dead Island 3 in the Works at Dambuster Studios, Targeting 2028 Launch
After the wild ride that was Dead Island 2, Dambuster Studios is already turning its attention to the next outbreak. According to the developer’s financial statements, Dead Island 3 is now the team’s “primary focus,” aiming for a 2028 release.
The news surfaced via X user @bogorad222, who spotted it in Dambuster’s annual report for the year ending March 31, 2025. The report, dated November 25, confirms the studio shifted its attention to Dead Island 3 after completing versions of Dead Island 2 for Amazon’s Luna and Mac — tasks now finished. Early production is already underway, with feature, character, world, and story design moving at pace toward a projected Q1/Q2 2028 launch.
Dambuster had already teased the sequel back in September, celebrating 20 million players for Dead Island 2 across PC and consoles. Their cryptic promise hinted at the next chapter: “The next outbreak? Dambuster is already drenched in the work. The journey is far from over…”
For anyone new to the series, Dead Island 2 is set in a quarantined Los Angeles overrun by a deadly virus, turning its citizens into ravenous zombies. Players infected by the virus must learn to harness the zombie inside while surviving the chaos around them.
Dead Island 2 is currently available on PC (Epic Games Store, Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
