‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Slashes the Box Office With a $100M+ Worldwide Debut

Two years after Five Nights at Freddy’s terrified its way to $291 million worldwide, returning director Emma Tammi is back—and the sequel is already slicing through the box office. Unlike the first film, which dropped on Peacock the same day it hit theaters, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is a theater-exclusive release… and it’s paying off in blood.

In the U.S., the sequel opened at #1 with a strong $63 million weekend. That’s below the first movie’s massive $80 million launch in 2023, but still enough to claim the title of 2025’s second-biggest horror opening.

Globally, FNAF 2 clawed in $109.1 million, easily clearing its reported $36–50 million budget. The film is already profitable—or inches away from it—and its momentum shows no signs of slowing.

Just like last time, reviews don’t matter. Critics slapped the sequel with a 13% Rotten Tomatoes score, but fans boosted it with an 88% audience rating, proving the franchise is as review-proof as ever.

The sequel picks up one year after the supernatural carnage at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Traumatized survivors Mike and Vanessa have hidden the truth from Mike’s little sister Abby—but as the town turns the tragedy into a cheesy local festival called “Fazfest,” the nightmare begins to crawl back into the light.

When Abby slips away to reunite with her animatronic “friends,” she triggers a new wave of terror—one tied to the true origin of Freddy’s and a horror buried for decades.

Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Theodus Crane, and Matthew Lillard return, joined by Skeet Ulrich, Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), and Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body). And yes—Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is back to bring the animatronics to life… or something close to it.

Expect the carnage to continue as FNAF 2 shreds its way through theaters in the coming weeks.
