The legendary killer-snake franchise is slithering back to theaters this Christmas with a meta-comedy reboot simply titled Anaconda, and the MPA has dropped the film’s official rating.

Anaconda (2025) — starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black — has been rated PG-13 for “violence/action, strong language, some drug use and suggestive references.”
Despite leaning harder into comedy, the rating lines up almost exactly with the original 1997 classic, which also carried a PG-13 for intense adventure violence, brief language, and a touch of sensuality.

This new reboot spirals into chaos when Rudd and Black’s characters, two lifelong best friends, set out to remake their favorite movie — only for a real giant anaconda to crash their set and turn their passion project into a life-or-death creature feature.

The cast also includes Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Steve Zahn (Silo), Selton Mello, Ione Skye (Say Anything, Haunt), and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad).
Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) writes and directs.

The original Anaconda—led by Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson, and Danny Trejo—followed a film crew held hostage by a deranged hunter obsessed with capturing the world’s deadliest snake. Its success spawned three sequels between 2004–2009 and a Lake Placid crossover in 2015.

The 2025 reboot hits theaters December 25.
