Toni Collette and Milly Alcock Team Up for Gritty Survival Thriller ‘Hot Mother’
Get ready for a weekend that turns from wellness to nightmare. Toni Collette (Hereditary) and Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) are set to star in the tense survival thriller Hot Mother, Deadline reports.
The story centers on a mother-daughter pair who escape to a remote wellness spa for some bonding time. But their retreat quickly descends into terror when they become trapped in a sauna, isolated and cut off from the outside world. What begins as an attempt to reconnect soon spirals into a brutal physical and psychological fight for survival, with no one to hear their screams.
Lucy Knox makes her feature directorial debut, adapting her 2020 short film of the same name, with production set to kick off next year in Australia. Academy Award winner Alex Coco (Anora) produces through Rapt Films, alongside Sarah Shaw and Anna McLeish (Relic) from Carver Films.
Collette also steps behind the camera as executive producer under her Vocab Films banner, with Jen Turner. Ruby Monette-Meadow joins as executive producer as well.
“Lucy is a filmmaker’s filmmaker, exactly the directors that I’m most committed to working with,” said Coco. “With our two lead actresses, this film will play wide globally, and introduce a new and fresh voice to the directing game.”
“As producers with a strong track record of launching Australian filmmakers, we’ve been aware of Lucy’s exceptional talent as a writer-director for many years,” added McLeish and Shaw. “She’s beyond ready to bring Hot Mother to life for audiences worldwide, with its thrilling screenplay and incredible cast.”
Bankside Films is handling worldwide sales and co-repping North America with CAA Media Finance ahead of next week’s American Film Market, ensuring that horror fans everywhere will get front-row access to this claustrophobic nightmare.
