The Purge’s Frank Grillo and Bodies Bodies Bodies star Maria Bakalova team up for Override, a brutal sci-fi survival thriller from Jordan Downey, the filmmaker behind The Head Hunter and ThanksKilling.

Currently filming in Belfast, Override follows a futuristic soldier (Bakalova) left for dead on the battlefield. With time running out and a fatal wound closing in, she’s aided by a synthetic angel (Grillo) — the latest in weaponized A.I. — as the two fight to outlast both the elements and their enemies.

Jordan Downey directs from a script co-written with Jackson Murray and Kevin Stewart. The project is produced by James Harris (Fall, 47 Meters Down) and Michael Downey (The Big Ugly), with financing from Christian Mercuri’s Capstone.

Sales company Capture — a joint venture between Capstone Global and Signature Entertainment — will bring Override to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market.

The film also reunites Grillo and Bakalova, who both voice characters in James Gunn’s upcoming animated DC series Creature Commandos.

Downey’s next horror project, The Cycle, is slated for release on Shudder in 2026.
