Meet Ben, the lovable family chimp who turns into a rabid killing machine in the new trailer for Paramount’s Primate, directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night, Welcome to Raccoon City).

Plot: After returning home from college, Lucy reunites with her family — including their pet chimp, Ben. But when Ben contracts rabies at a pool party, he becomes violently aggressive. Lucy and her friends must barricade themselves in the pool area, finding inventive ways to survive the relentless, feral chimp.

Primate hits theaters January 9, 2026.

Roberts co-wrote the screenplay with Ernest Riera, and the film stars Johnny Sequoyah alongside Oscar®-winner Troy Kotsur (CODA) in his first horror role. Walter Hamada produces, part of Paramount’s new horror pact.

The trailer highlights white-knuckle suspense and jaw-dropping practical effects. Ben is brought to life by Millennium FX and movement specialist Miguel Torres Umba, making the chimp’s terrifying transformation the film’s standout feature.

This is horror fans’ next must-see creature feature, combining practical effects, suspense, and a killer chimp that will haunt your nightmares.
