‘Mortal Kombat III’ Officially Entering Development

The blood hasn’t even dried from Mortal Kombat II, and Warner Bros. is already sharpening the blades for Mortal Kombat III.

At New York Comic Con, writer Jeremy Slater (The Exorcist, Moon Knight) confirmed that he’s officially been tapped to start writing the third installment in the ultra-violent franchise — even before the second film hits theaters on May 15, 2026.

“Our friends at New Line and Warner Bros. are so happy with [Mortal Kombat II], they are so excited, they are so convinced that there is a giant fanbase waiting for it, that they have already hired me to start writing the next installment,” Slater told the NYCC crowd.

Hell yes.

Simon McQuoid returns to direct Mortal Kombat II, with Slater on script duties. The sequel promises more blood, more fatalities, and more fan-favorite carnage — including the long-awaited arrival of Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban.

Also returning to the battlefield: Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano (Lord Raiden), Joe Taslim (Bi-Han/Sub-Zero), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion).

The film is rated R for “strong bloody violence and gore, and language” — as it damn well should be.

With Mortal Kombat II on the way and Part III already in the chamber, it’s clear Warner Bros. is all-in on this gloriously brutal universe. Check out the brand-new featurette below and prepare for a double dose of bloodsport.
