“Grave Encounters” Reboot Announced with Justin Long & Kate Bosworth
The cult-found-footage nightmare Grave Encounters is clawing its way back from the dead. Variety reports that a full-blown reboot is in the works, with scream king Justin Long set to star and produce alongside his partner, Kate Bosworth.
The revival reunites the couple with Colin Minihan (Grave Encounters, What Keeps You Alive) and Stuart Ortiz, the twisted minds behind the 2011 original. This time around, the pair will be “developing the film,” promising a modernized take that dials up the dread, claustrophobia, and psychological terror that made the first movie a cult classic.
Long and Bosworth recently teamed with Minihan on Coyotes—dropping this Halloween season—making this reboot a bloody reunion. The couple said they’re aiming to honor the original while unleashing something even darker.
Minihan and Ortiz added:
“We made Grave Encounters in our 20s on a self-financed shoestring budget, and it scared the hell out of people. Justin has defined genre cinema for over a decade and is the definitive scream king. He’s the perfect choice to reimagine Grave Encounters for a new generation.”
For those who missed the original, Grave Encounters followed a ghost-hunting TV crew who lock themselves inside an abandoned mental hospital… only to discover the evil within is all too real. It spawned a sequel in 2012, but this reboot looks ready to drag the franchise back into the horror spotlight.
No release date yet—but the asylum doors are creaking open once again.
