Currently available on VOD, Danny Boyle‘s 28 Years Later will infect SteelBook, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 23 via Sony.

Boyle reunites with screenwriter Alex Garland for the long-awaited third installment in the post-apocalyptic horror franchise, which launched in 2002 with 28 Days Later and continued with 2007’s 28 Weeks Later.

The film is presented in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

Five featurettes are included as special features:

  • Days to Years
  • Capturing the Chaos
  • The Survivors
  • Becoming the Infected
  • Behind the Cameras

It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected.

One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, and Ralph Fiennes star.

28 Years Later kicks off a new trilogy and was shot back-to-back with the next entry, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Written by Garland and directed by Nia DaCosta, it’s due out on January 16, 2026.
