‘Backrooms’ Movie Teaser from A24 Promises Liminal Horror in May 2026
A new demonic horror film titled Traumatika is being positioned as far too extreme to ever warrant a full trailer. According to the brief teaser released today, Saban Films asserts that the film’s intensity makes a full preview off-limits. The unrated movie is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on September 12, 2025.
Directed and co-written by Pierre Tsigaridis (of Two Witches) alongside producer and co-writer Maxime Rancon, Traumatika explores a chilling premise: night terrors become reality for a young boy named Mikey when his mother begins to show signs of demonic possession. The film promises a haunting experience that will have repercussions across generations.
The cast includes Rebekah Kennedy as the possessed mother, Ranen Navat as the boy Mikey, Emily Goss as Alice, AJ Bowen, Sean O’Bryan, Susan Gayle Watts, and Sean Whalen among others.
In a statement accompanying the teaser, Saban Films co-presidents Jonathan Saba and Shanan Becker emphasized that Traumatika isn’t just something to watch—it’s something to experience, ideally on a big screen. They described the film as “highly disturbing,” crafted by “mad genius storytellers,” and issued a warning to audiences about its impact.
The teaser itself reinforces that messaging: it features critical pull-quotes about the movie’s intensity, interspersed with quick, unsettling flashes of demonic imagery—but nothing that appears to be from a traditional trailer.
Traumatika made its debut at FrightFest in 2024 and later screened at Sitges, San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival, Morbido Fest, Fantaspoa, and GrimmFest before Saban Films acquired North American distribution rights in April 2025.
With its theatrical release set for September 12, 2025, the question remains: will the full terror live up to its foreboding marketing? Only audiences in theaters this fall will find out.
