Every year, the historic Colonial Theatre on 227 Bridge Street in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania pays tribute to horror classic The Blob with Blobfest – the theater, after all, was prominently featured in the classic 1950s movie starring Steve McQueen! –  and this year’s 26th annual Blobfest will be taking place from July 11 through July 13, 2025!

This year’s Blobfest theme is “Camp Blobfest,” promising an outrageously over-the-top festival experience filled with nostalgia, thrills, and larger-than-life summer camp-themed fun.

The three-day festival of ghoulishly gooey fun pays homage to the theatre’s starring role in the 1958 classic Steve McQueen film, The Blob. Phoenixville’s favorite movie monster oozed into town more than 60 years ago after the Colonial Theater was featured in the famous 1958 film during a scene where a large crowd runs out of the theatre to escape the renowned blob. Since then, the Colonial has celebrated the film and all things sci-fi horror for a quarter century.

Highlights for “Camp Blobfest” include a Saturday street fair, the “Blob Ball,” a Saturday night screening and “run-out” activation, a short film contest, costume contest, 5k/10k/half marathon, and so much more. Head over to the official website to learn more about the event.

The Colonial Theatre is also rolling out exciting new additions to this year’s Blobfest thanks to an $8,000 grant from PECO’s Equal Access to Arts and Culture program. The funding will support expanded outreach efforts within Phoenixville’s Hispanic community. As part of this initiative, the Colonial will offer fully funded, free tickets to all screenings of La Masa Devoradora, the Spanish-language version of The Blob, ensuring greater access for Spanish-speaking audiences. Additionally, DJ Jholi, a well-known local Latin music DJ, will take the stage during Saturday’s street fair on July 12. The grant will also support the launch of a brand-new Family Fun Zone, debuting during the Camp Blobfest: Saturday Street Fair.
