Millions hunt. One runs. Everyone watches. Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, Scream Queens) stars in Edgar Wright’s (Shaun of the Dead, Last Night in Soho) new movie The Running Man, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel that was previously adapted in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the starring role. Watch the official trailer for The Running Man below.

Paramount brings The Running Man to theaters on November 7, 2025.

Here’s the brand new official synopsis for Edgar Wright’s fresh take…

“In a near-future society, The Running Man is the top-rated show on television—a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward.

“Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall.”

Colman Domingo (Candyman) and Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding) also star in the film, alongside Daniel Ezra, Karl Glusman, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, David Zayas, and Sean Hayes.

Edgar Wright wrote the script with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street). Chung-hoon Chung (Oldboy, It, Last Night in Soho) serves as cinematographer.

King’s novel, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, was released in 1982, loosely adapted into the same-titled Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring film back in 1987.
