Touting itself as a “self co-op” adventure title with a Tim Burton-esque visual aesthetic, Untold Tales and developers Atlas V, Fishing Cactus, 3DAR and ARTE France have announced Gloomy Eyes for Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. Coming later this year, Gloomy Eyes currently has a demo on Steam that gives players a glimpse (no pun intended) of the first opening levels.

Originally conceived by 3DAR, AtlasV, and ARTE and released in 2019 as a VR movie/experience narrated by Colin Farrell, Gloomy Eyes centers around a zombie boy named Gloomy, and a mischievous human girl named Nina. When the sun gave up on humanity, darkness and gloom took over the world. The result has created a bitter, angry world where the living and the undead are locked in endless squabbles. It’s now up to Gloomy and Nina to team up and embark on a quest to bring back the daylight.

Players will control both Gloomy and Nena, where they’ll need to switch between the two in order to solve environmental puzzles. Each character brings their own strengths and weaknesses, requiring you to think strategically.

The world of Gloomy Eyes is presented as a handcrafted rotatable diorama that overflows “with visual macabre charm and ghoulishly delightful details.” Players will explore these miniature worlds from multiple angles to uncover secrets, solve puzzles, and play out a story of a love that should never be.
