The Final Girls‘ director Todd Strauss-Schulson is set to helm ‘Rats!‘, a new survival horror film for Lionsgate centered on a massive rat infestation in New York City.

According to *Deadline*, Lionsgate has teamed up with producer Paul Brooks (‘Pitch Perfect’) for global rights to the project, which will be shopped at the upcoming Cannes market. The screenplay was co-written by Strauss-Schulson and Paul Sado (‘Leo’), with Jason Fuchs (‘Welcome to Derry’) attached as producer.

The film’s premise follows New York in a desperate race to stop a deadly outbreak of killer rats “unlike anything the world has ever seen.”

‘Rats!’ joins a legacy of rodent-based horror, alongside titles like ‘Ben’ (1972), ‘Willard’ (2003), and ‘Mulberry Street’ (2006).
