Netflix’s acquisition of “The Deliverance” in a competitive bidding war, reportedly for $65 million, has been highly anticipated. Today, the streaming giant unveiled the official trailer for this upcoming horror film.
Directed by Lee Daniels, known for his work on “Precious” and “The Butler,” “The Deliverance” marks his venture into the horror genre. The movie carries an “R” rating for violent content, language, and sexual references.
Set to hit select theaters on August 16 and Netflix on August 30, “The Deliverance” stars Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, Miss Lawrence, and Anthony B. Jenkins. The cast also includes Andra Day, Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Aunjanue Ellis, Caleb McLaughlin, and Tasha Smith.
Described as an “exorcism thriller,” the film follows Ebony Jackson, a struggling single mother seeking a fresh start in a new home. However, as strange events unfold, suspicions from Child Protective Services threaten her family’s stability. Ebony finds herself in a harrowing battle for survival and the souls of her children.
“The Deliverance” is inspired by true events and features a screenplay co-written by Lee Daniels, David Coggeshall, Elijah Bynum, and Thomas Westfall.
