Buffalo 8 is thrilled to announce the North American VOD release of ‘Screwdriver,’ the first full-length feature from writer-director Cairo Smith. AnnaClaire Hicks takes the lead in this eerie slow burn as Emily, a trusting woman who finds herself entangled in the potentially ominous grasp of an old friend (Charlie Farrell) and his hospitable wife (Milly Sanders). ‘Screwdriver’ arrives on Cable and Digital VOD on November 10th, accessible on platforms like Prime Video, Vudu, Vubiquity, Cox, and Comcast.
Written and directed by Cairo Smith, marking his debut in feature-length filmmaking, ‘Screwdriver’ was produced by Askari Productions and No Sudden Movies. The film had its world premiere on the festival circuit at Dances with Films in Los Angeles and went on to be featured at festivals worldwide, including the SOHO International Film Festival and NYC Independent Film Festival.
Blindsided by divorce, thirty-three-year-old Emily departs her adopted Nebraska, returning to California with only a suitcase in hand. Seeking solace, she takes refuge in the home of an old high school friend and his wife, a pharmacologist. The childless couple warmly welcomes Emily into their lives, but their hospitality soon morphs into a surreal narrative of cult-like manipulation and betrayal. As days blur together, Emily descends into a bewildering whirlwind, challenging her faith, her sanity, and the intentions of her generous hosts.
