Carrie White is coming back—and this time, her story is being dragged into the age of social media.

Prime Video has released the official trailer for “Carrie,” the upcoming eight-episode limited series from horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan, based on Stephen King’s iconic novel.

All eight episodes will premiere on October 7, 2026, giving fans a new take on one of horror’s most famous stories just in time for Halloween season.

The new series stars Summer Howell as Carrie White, a bullied high school student who has spent most of her life isolated at home under the control of her fiercely protective mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan.

But Carrie’s sheltered life begins to fall apart after the sudden death of her father forces her into the brutal world of public high school.

There, she finds herself caught in a viral bullying scandal while dealing with the everyday cruelty of teenage social media. At the same time, something else is happening to Carrie.

Her telekinetic abilities are beginning to emerge.

And as the pressure around her continues to build, it seems only a matter of time before Carrie finally snaps.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social-media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.”

Flanagan serves as writer and showrunner on the series and directs four of its eight episodes. Amazon MGM Studios is producing, with Stephen King serving as an executive producer.

The cast also includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Tota as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.

For Flanagan, the goal wasn’t to simply recreate what audiences have already seen.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker explained that the series needed to take the original ingredients of Carrie and build something new from them rather than retelling the story exactly as it has been done before.

That means the new series is using King’s familiar characters and themes while bringing them into a very different teenage world—one where bullying can go viral in seconds and technology can make humiliation nearly impossible to escape.

Flanagan also sees King’s original themes of kindness, cruelty, empathy, bullying, and school violence as being just as relevant, if not more so, today.

The result looks like a Carrie designed for a generation that grew up online.
