Sarah Catherine Hook is about to find herself in a very bad situation.

The White Lotus star has been cast as the lead in Crush, an upcoming python survival horror movie from 20th Century Studios and The Pope’s Exorcist and Overlord director Julius Avery.

According to Deadline, Hook will star in the film, which centers on a woman who finds herself trapped in the deadly coils of a massive python while hiking alone in the Florida Everglades.

And there may be no easy way out.

Crush follows a woman who wakes up to discover that a giant python has wrapped itself around her body. With the snake slowly tightening its grip, she has to fight to stay alive as every breath becomes harder to take.

The movie is inspired by true events and is expected to unfold in real time, potentially turning the entire story into one extended fight for survival.

John Fischer wrote the screenplay, which was reportedly picked up by 20th Century Studios following a bidding war.

Avery, meanwhile, brings plenty of horror experience to the project. His previous credits include the supernatural horror hit The Pope’s Exorcist, starring Russell Crowe, as well as the WWII creature feature Overlord.

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce for Temple Hill, with Scott Glassgold’s 12:01 Films also attached to produce.

With a massive python, an isolated location, and a protagonist who can’t simply run away, Crush sounds like it could deliver some seriously claustrophobic snake horror.

More details, including a release date, are expected as the project moves forward.
