Zack Snyder’s 2021 zombie epic, “Army of the Dead,” initially promised an animated series spin-off known as “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas.” However, updates on the project have been scarce lately. In a recent interview with Total Film, Zack Snyder indicates that the anticipated animated series is no longer in the works at Netflix.

Furthermore, Snyder unveils an intriguing connection between “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas” and his upcoming project, “Rebel Moon.” He reveals that both narratives exist within the same shared universe. Snyder explains that “Army of the Dead” has an expansive mythology that wasn’t fully explored in the movie. He elaborates, “There’s actually a character from Rebel Moon in the Army of the Dead animated series that we never did.”

Snyder delves deeper into the connection, mentioning that the animated series features a portal to another dimension, introducing new characters. Some of these characters from the animated series can be found in “Rebel Moon,” particularly in a bar scene with aliens. This revelation solidifies the idea of a shared universe between the two projects.

It appears that significant progress had been made on “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas” before its cancellation. Snyder mentions, “We did all the scripts and the animatics, and all the voices are recorded. So you could watch it, even in its crazy animatic form – you can watch the whole run.”

“Army of the Dead” expanded its universe with the Netflix spinoff movie, “Army of Thieves,” in 2021. The original plan included not only “Lost Vegas” but also a live-action sequel titled “Planet of the Dead.”

The big question remains: Has “Planet of the Dead” also met a similar fate? Are Netflix and Snyder shifting their focus away from the “Army of the Dead” Universe in favor of the “Rebel Moon” Universe? These uncertainties linger, and we eagerly await further developments and updates. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
