Chuck Russell’s ‘Witchboard’ Remake Unleashes Vengeful Occult Terror in First Trailer
Chuck Russell, the filmmaker behind The Blob and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, returns to horror this year with Witchboard, a modern reimagining of the 1986 cult classic directed by Kevin S. Tenney. A brand-new trailer has arrived, teasing a terrifying descent into occult horror.
Set in present-day New Orleans, Witchboard follows a young couple whose lives spiral into darkness after uncovering a cursed pendulum board that awakens a vengeful witch. The discovery unleashes possession, temptation, and otherworldly terror, threatening to consume their souls.
The film stars Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Aaron Dominguez (Only Murders in the Building), Antonia Desplat (Shantaram), and Charlie Tahan (Ozark), with Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things) also joining the ensemble.
Witchboard is set to hit theaters on August 15, 2025.
The trailer and key art promise a far darker, more ambitious vision than the 1986 original. Iseman plays Emily, who, along with her fiancé and friends, opens an organic café inside a renovated carriage house in the French Quarter. But their dream quickly turns into a nightmare when Emily uncovers an ancient spirit board with a dark history—and a soul-hungry presence attached to it.
Witchboard is rated “R” for strong bloody violence, gore, language, drug content, some sexual content, and brief nudity.
