Filmmaker Meosha Bean Explores ‘Church Hurt’ in New Audio Series

Acclaimed horror and indie filmmaker Meosha Bean, known for her fearless storytelling and unflinching visual style, is turning the lens on a different kind of horror in her upcoming docu-series Church Hurt. The six-part project dives into the silent, festering trauma that haunts many religious communities—particularly those raised inside them.
For Bean, this project is more than just a creative departure from her blood-soaked genre roots—it’s personal.
“I grew up as a PK—a preacher’s kid,” Bean shares. “My early life was wrapped in the church, a place that’s supposed to provide safety and healing. But as I grew, I saw how it can also be a source of deep pain. This series is about confronting that duality.”
From Horror Films to Real-Life Hauntings
While Bean has made her name with genre staples like Hard Requitals, Miss Pepper, and Delusions, and appeared alongside horror legends in the acclaimed documentary Horror Noire, her latest effort shifts the terror inward. Church Hurt explores real stories of betrayal, emotional abuse, and psychological scars endured by those within institutional religion.
The idea was sparked by a personal tragedy—a loved one who, broken by spiritual trauma, eventually succumbed to despair. That loss became the emotional anchor for the project, which seeks not only to expose the dark underbelly of the church experience but to spark dialogue and healing.
“We talk about monsters in movies all the time,” she says. “But the ones that live in pews and pulpits? Those are real—and they rarely get confronted.”
A Call to Action
Bean is currently crowdfunding the project through GoFundMe. The campaign will fund critical aspects of production, from promotion to platform distribution, ensuring the series reaches the audience it’s meant to impact.
And here’s the kicker: everyone who donates—no matter the amount—receives a producer credit.
“This isn’t just my story. It’s our story. Anyone who contributes becomes part of the movement,” says Bean.
Her aim is to infuse the series with the same raw energy and honesty that has made her a force in indie film circles. But instead of fake blood and creature effects, this time it’s emotional scars, lived trauma, and hard-earned truth that will be on display.

With Church Hurt, Bean steps into new territory—but she brings with her the same no-holds-barred approach that defines her horror legacy. This time, the monster isn’t a masked killer or a cursed object. It’s what hides behind the stained glass.
