Stephen King’s ‘The Institute’ Season 2 Begins Production
Production is officially underway on Season 2 of The Institute, the supernatural horror series adapted from Stephen King’s 2019 novel of the same name.
The show comes from writer Benjamin Cavell (The Stand, Justified) and director Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes, Child’s Play 3), with the new season set to return to MGM+ later this year.
Ben Barnes, Joe Freeman, Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Hannah Galway, and Arlen So are all confirmed to reprise their roles, with more casting announcements expected as production continues.
King has already teased what’s ahead, hinting at a darker road for the survivors: “Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute, and I can’t wait.”
Season 1 followed teen genius Luke Ellis, who is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious facility known as The Institute—home to other children taken against their will, all possessing disturbing psychic abilities. Meanwhile, in a nearby town, haunted former cop Tim Jamieson attempts to start over, only to find his fate inevitably intertwined with Luke’s.
The Institute proved to be a breakout hit for MGM+, earning the streamer’s best-ever premiere when it debuted last July. With Season 2 now rolling cameras, the nightmare is far from over.
