In a war-torn land where survival demands ruthless choices, darkness waits for those who falter.

That’s the peril Sophie Turner and Kit Harington face in The Dreadful, reuniting once again after Game of Thrones. The first trailer promises gothic terror, cursed secrets, and the kind of medieval dread that lingers long after the screen goes dark.

The unnerving gothic horror film hits select theaters and Digital February 20 via Lionsgate.

Set in a bleak corner of medieval England, Anne struggles under the iron hand of her domineering mother-in-law Morwen. Their fragile existence teeters on the edge of ruin, but when a man from Anne’s past returns from war, a sinister curse takes shape. A mysterious knight emerges, and the family soon realizes that survival may come at the cost of their very souls.

Written and directed by Natasha Kermani (Abraham’s Boys, V/H/S/85), The Dreadful brings a distinctly chilling vision to the gothic horror genre.

Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden (The Mist) co-stars alongside Laurence O’Fuarain (The Sandman) and Jonathan Howard (Godzilla: King of the Monsters).

Turner and Kermani also serve as producers, joined by Luke Daniels, Greg Lauritano, Lucas Jarach, Adam G. Simon, Bull Blumenthal, and Patrick Hibler.

The Dreadful carries an R rating for “violence/bloody images and a sexual reference,” making it clear this is a gothic nightmare meant for grown-up audiences.
