Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ Wraps Filming Ahead of Christmas Release
Modern horror auteur Robert Eggers has officially wrapped production on his fifth feature, Werwulf.
The period horror film began shooting in the UK last fall and is slated to hit theaters on December 25 via Focus Features, positioning it as a chilling counterprogramming release for the holiday season.
Set in 13th-century England, Werwulf follows a mysterious creature stalking the countryside, as ancient folklore bleeds into brutal reality.
Eggers directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sjón, his collaborator on The Northman.
The film boasts a stacked cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet).
Werwulf is produced by Eggers and Sjón alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title, with Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus executive producing for Maiden Voyage.
With Werwulf now in the can, Eggers remains attached to helm a new take on A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros. and a Labyrinth sequel for TriStar—though it’s currently unclear which project will move forward next.
