Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick Get Bloody in First ‘Family Movie’ Stills
Hollywood couple Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick step behind the camera together for the upcoming meta horror comedy Family Movie, which also stars their real-life children Sosie Bacon (Smile) and Travis Bacon.
The film is set to make its world premiere at SXSW in Austin this Friday, with new stills offering a first look at the bloody chaos ahead.
Written by Dan Beers (Premature), Family Movie centers on a filmmaking family whose low-budget horror production spirals into a real-life nightmare when a dead body suddenly appears on set.
Kevin Bacon plays Jack Smith, a struggling indie horror director desperate to finish what could be his final film. His wife Ellen (Kyra Sedgwick) has long served as both his biggest supporter and his leading lady. Their daughter Ula (Sosie Bacon) is also an actor—but she secretly plans to leave the project after landing a role on a television series. Meanwhile, their son Trent (Travis Bacon) works as the boom operator while pursuing dreams of becoming an MMA fighter.
Despite financial pressures and family tensions, the group rallies together to help Jack finish his latest slasher movie. But the production quickly derails when it becomes clear that Ellen may share more in common with the masked killers in their films than anyone expected.
“I don’t think that we were necessarily looking for something to do together,” Sedgwick told Entertainment Weekly. “We pitched it to the kids, thinking that they probably wouldn’t be into it. I was so nervous. And they actually said yes. I was like, ‘Wait, what? You wanna work with your parents?’ It was pretty monumental.”
The cast also includes Liza Koshy (Boo! A Madea Halloween), John Carroll Lynch (American Horror Story), Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Andrea Savage (Tulsa King), Austin Amelio (The Walking Dead), and Scoot McNairy (Monsters).
Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Sosie Bacon, and Travis Bacon produce the film alongside Vince Jolivette (The Disaster Artist), Casey Durant, Greg Lauritano, and Russell Wayne Groves.
Family Movie premieres this week at SXSW, blending slasher mayhem with a twisted family affair.
