Surviving the crash is only the beginning in the newly released poster for Deep Water, the upcoming killer shark thriller from director Renny Harlin.

Best known to horror fans for Deep Blue Sea and The Strangers trilogy, Harlin returns to deadly waters with a high-stakes survival story that pits stranded passengers against a feeding frenzy of sharks. The film swims into theaters on May 1 via Magenta Light Studios.

In Deep Water, an international flight traveling from Los Angeles to Shanghai suffers a catastrophic malfunction and is forced to make an emergency landing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The surviving passengers find themselves trapped inside the sinking aircraft—surrounded by shark-infested waters.

As panic spreads and the wreckage slowly fills with water, the group must put aside their differences and work together if they hope to escape the doomed plane and the predators circling below.

The cast includes Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island), Molly Belle Wright (The Best Christmas Pageant Ever), Angus Sampson (Insidious), Kelly Gale (Plane), and Li Wenhan of the K-pop group UNIQ.

Harlin previously described the project as a love letter to classic disaster films.

“Deep Water represents the kind of movie I’ve dreamed of making since I grew up loving the ’70s disaster movies,” Harlin said. “Spectacular action and unforgettable characters who didn’t leave a dry eye in the movie theater.”
