Shudder is headed to Hell Motel, an upcoming Canadian horror anthology series from Slasher creators Aaron Martin and Ian Carpenter. The eight-episode limited series premieres June 17 on Shudder and AMC+ with a two-episode debut, followed by new episodes every Tuesday.
Set at the newly reopened Cold River Motel—a site infamous for a 30-year-old unsolved satanic mass murder—the story follows ten true crime fanatics invited for the grand reopening. But when they become stranded, history begins to repeat itself in a brutal murder spree that escalates far beyond the original killings.
The cast is led by Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) as Hemmingway, a sinister chef with a flair for the macabre. Joining him are Paula Brancati (Slasher) as Paige, a washed-up scream queen; Shaun Benson (The Boys) as Crow, a medium connected to the massacre’s victims; and Atticus Mitchell (The Hardy Boys) as Blake, a true crime writer and mass killing survivor.
The ensemble also features Emmanuel Kabongo (Outer Banks) as murder-obsessed artist Kawayan, Jim Watson (Transplant) as crime academic Andy, and Genevieve DeGraves (Chapelwaite) as Adriana, a flight attendant romantically entangled with serial killers.
Guest appearances include Canada’s Drag Race winner Icesis Couture as Magenta, a glamorous real estate agent who sells the motel to its new owners, Ruby (Brynn Godenir) and Portia (Michelle Nolden).
“If you loved hating Basil Garvey, prepare to feel an instant disdain for Hemmingway,” McCormack teased, referring to his villainous turn in Slasher: Ripper. Martin and Carpenter added, “Hell Motel is a bloody love letter to horror—both the stories we consume and the dark thrill of telling them.”
Ian Carpenter returns as showrunner, with Adam MacDonald (Backcountry, Pyewacket) directing.
