Developer Saikat Deb’s psychological dread-trip The 9th Charnel may have slipped past its planned fall debut, but it’s clawing its way into the new year with a confirmed launch on January 30, 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. A physical edition is also on the way for collectors who like their nightmares tangible.

To mark the date, a fresh trailer has dropped—packed with sinister glimpses of the valley’s lurking entities, suffocating atmosphere, and the nerve-grinding puzzles and encounters that await anyone brave enough to step inside.

Drawing inspiration from classic survival-horror, The 9th Charnel follows Michael and fellow genetic scientists Sara Whitlock and Daniel J. Hart of The Epsilon Research Institute. What begins as routine research at a nearby wildlife sanctuary spirals into disaster when their car careens off the road, stranding them in a secluded valley that feels wrong from the moment they wake.

Separated from his colleagues, Michael is pulled deeper into a labyrinth of fanatical cults, abandoned rites, and unseen forces that seem older—and angrier—than anything human. With each secret uncovered, survival becomes more desperate and more unhinged.

Players must chase the truth while deciding the fate of the three scientists, battling both external horrors and the psychological fractures clawing at Michael’s sanity. Scavenge what little you can, ration every resource, and survive using stealth, cunning, or raw defiance when the valley refuses to let you go.
