Last night’s Episode 6 of IT: Welcome to Derry delivered a massive reveal — and to talk about it, we’ve gotta wade straight into spoiler territory. Proceed if you’re ready.
The twist? Madeleine Stowe’s Ingrid Kersh is actually the daughter of Bob Gray, the carnival performer who played the original Pennywise in early-1900s Derry. Just like in King’s novel, the interdimensional creature we know as IT copied the look of a real clown, and Ingrid has spent her life convinced Pennywise is her dead father returned. That belief drives her loyalty to IT… and her own descent into something far darker.
Because Ingrid isn’t just helping the creature — she’s been stalking the characters as Periwinkle, her father’s creepy side-act. That unsettling clown spotted in earlier episodes, including the graveyard photo? Not Pennywise. It was Periwinkle the whole time.
Horror fans will note that Ingrid Kersh appears as one of IT’s forms in IT: Chapter Two, but Episode 6 adds fresh, sinister layers to that connection. Episode 7, dropping Sunday, December 7 on HBO Max, promises to dig even deeper into the twisted history of Bob Gray and his daughter.
Co-showrunner Jason Fuchs tells EW that Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming scenes push Pennywise into “unexpected places,” teasing moments the films never had room to explore. According to Fuchs, fans will witness Skarsgård do things with the character “you’ve not seen him do yet.”
With only two episodes left in Season One, Welcome to Derry is gearing up for a blood-soaked finale. Watch the official Episode 6 trailer above — if you dare.
