‘Tomb Raider’ Series Targets Sigourney Weaver for Key Role

Lara Croft is gearing up for her next adventure—this time on the small screen. Amazon Prime Video’s live-action Tomb Raider series is underway, and Deadline reports that Sigourney Weaver is now in talks to join the cast. Her role remains tightly under wraps, which only makes the speculation louder.

Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) is set to take on the mantle of Lara Croft, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who brought the character to life in past feature adaptations.

The series is being spearheaded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), who is developing and writing what Amazon is calling an “epic, globe-trotting” reimagining of the franchise. Waller-Bridge will co-showrun alongside Jonathan Van Tulleken and Chad Hodge.

In a statement, Waller-Bridge shared her excitement: “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode… Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ’n all.”

Waller-Bridge also serves as executive producer, joined by Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt.

More details on Weaver’s potential role—and the series itself—are sure to drop soon. For now, fans can prepare for a fresh, character-driven take on one of gaming’s most iconic heroines.
