Mike Flanagan Begins Filming His Television Adaptation of ‘Carrie’

Stephen King’s iconic horror novel Carrie is rising once again—this time as a new limited series from horror maestro Mike Flanagan, now in production for Prime Video.

Flanagan confirmed the start of filming in an Instagram post this week, officially launching work on the eight-episode adaptation.

Leading the cast is Summer H. Howell (Clouds, Hunter Hunter) as the telekinetically gifted outcast Carrie White. She’s joined by a stacked ensemble including Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette, Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, Danielle Klaudt, Heather Graham, Tim Bagley, Tahmoh Penikett, Mapuana Makia, Naika Toussaint, Delainey Hayles, Cassandra Naud, and Rowan Danielle.

In this modern take on King’s 1974 debut novel, Carrie White is a sheltered teen navigating the brutal reality of public high school following the sudden death of her father. Isolated by her fanatically religious mother and targeted by her classmates, Carrie’s torment soon awakens something terrifying within—mysterious and destructive telekinetic powers.

Billed as “a bold and timely reimagining,” the series is executive produced by Flanagan alongside longtime collaborator Trevor Macy. Flanagan also serves as writer, showrunner, and director on select episodes, marking his fourth adaptation of Stephen King’s work after Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and the upcoming The Life of Chuck.

Carrie has a long history on screen, famously adapted by Brian De Palma in 1976, followed by versions in 2002 and 2013, as well as a sequel film in 1999. Flanagan’s version aims to bring new depth and relevance to the horror classic—just in time for a new generation.

Stay tuned for more updates as Carrie begins its bloody journey back to the screen.
