‘Black Mirror’ Officially Returning for Season 8 on Netflix

Charlie Brooker has officially confirmed that Netflix has ordered up Black Mirror Season 8, promising that the next batch of episodes will be “more Black Mirror than ever.”

The announcement arrives on the heels of Season 7’s strong awards showing, which included Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for TV.

Speaking with Netflix’s Tudum, Brooker reacted with his signature dry humor:

“It was a pleasant surprise and an honor. I mean, obviously, I don’t experience human emotion, but as much as I can emulate it, I was pleased.”

As for what’s coming next, Brooker kept things teasingly vague—but ominous.

Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more Black Mirror than ever.”

In addition to the anthology’s return, Brooker is also developing a separate, untitled serial killer series for Netflix—one that he’s quick to point out couldn’t be more different from Black Mirror.

“There’s definitely something I’m not saying about it at the moment just yet,” Brooker said. “I can’t even tell you what it’s called yet, but it’s very much not Black Mirror. I can say that. It’s a very, very different thing. The most detective show of all time. It’s a deeply profound and profoundly serious crime thriller.”

Netflix has offered a chilling tease of the new project, revealing that the series will be set between the fictional northern city of Bleakford and the streets of London, following a tormented detective racing to stop a ritualistic serial killer before the body count climbs any higher.

First premiering in 2011, Black Mirror has long served as a modern-day Twilight Zone, delivering standalone stories that explore society’s darkest anxieties about technology, media, and human behavior. Each episode holds up a cold, reflective surface—one that mirrors our 21st-century obsession with screens, surveillance, and unchecked innovation… often with deeply unsettling consequences.

With Season 8 on the way, it looks like that reflection is only about to get darker.
