Back in August, rumors spread that Zach Cregger’s box office hit Weapons might spawn a prequel—one focused on the unsettling Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan). Now, Cregger himself confirms the whispers were true.

Speaking with Fangoria, Cregger said:
“It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit.”

He revealed he had the idea ready before Weapons even hit theaters, with cut material from the original script hinting at Aunt Gladys’s disturbing backstory. The prequel would expand on what was meant to be her own chilling chapter.

But before diving back into Weapons, Cregger will tackle his next project: a theatrical reimagining of Resident Evil, set to release on September 18, 2026.

For now, Weapons is out on Digital—so fans can revisit the nightmare while waiting for Aunt Gladys to return.
