Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery joins Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread) in Went Up the Hill, an eerie and emotionally charged ghost story set to hit theaters on August 15, 2025.

The newly released trailer teases a chilling and deeply original supernatural tale, earning early praise from critics. The Hollywood Reporter calls it “one of the most startlingly original ghost stories in years.”

In the film, Montgomery plays Jack, a man abandoned as a child who travels to remote New Zealand to attend the funeral of his estranged mother. There, he meets her grieving widow, Jill (Krieps). But the funeral becomes far more than a goodbye—when Jack’s mother’s spirit returns, she begins possessing both Jack and Jill, using their bodies to communicate in a dangerous, supernatural entanglement that threatens to destroy them both.

Directed by Samuel Van Grinsven (Sequin in a Blue Room), Went Up the Hill was co-written by Van Grinsven and Jory Anast.

The film is produced by Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton of Causeway Films (The Babadook, Talk to Me), alongside Vicky Pope of POP Film (Savage). Bankside Films, who previously collaborated with Causeway on acclaimed horror titles, is handling worldwide sales.
