A24’s Slow-Burn Horror ‘Undertone’ Drops Teaser Poster Ahead of Tomorrow’s Trailer
A24’s slow-burn horror Undertone is making its presence known ahead of tomorrow’s official trailer, thanks to a chilling new teaser poster.
The film premiered at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival, sparking a seven-figure bidding war that A24 ultimately won.
Nina Kiri (The Handmaid’s Tale) stars as the film’s sole on-screen character, portraying a paranormal podcast host who moves into her dying mother’s home to serve as her primary caregiver. When she receives audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing supernatural occurrences, she realizes the woman’s story mirrors her own. Each new recording gnaws at her sanity, pulling her toward a fate she cannot escape.
Undertone marks the feature debut of writer-director Ian Tuason, who is also set to helm the upcoming Paranormal Activity reboot. The cast includes voice performances by Kris Holden-Ried (The Umbrella Academy), Michèle Duquet (The Virgin Suicides), Keana Lyn Bastidas (The Hardy Boys), and Jeff Yung (The Shrouds).
The film is produced by Dan Slater (Slaterverse Pictures) and Cody Calahan (Black Fawn Films), with executive producers Steven Schneider and Roy Lee (Spooky Pictures), Chad Archibald (Black Fawn Films), Brit MacRae and Daril Fannin (Kino Studios), and DimensionGate.
Joe Lipsett, writing from Fantasia, raved, “I can’t remember the last time a movie made every hair on my body stand up, but Undertone got me good.”
Undertone is set for its U.S. premiere at Sundance later this month, with a theatrical release expected this spring.
