Uma Thurman Faces Killer Ballerinas in ‘Pretty Lethal’

Uma Thurman takes on a deadly troupe of ballerinas in the horror-tinged action thriller Pretty Lethal, and the first images from the film have just dropped.

Formerly titled Ballerina Overdrive, the film will premiere at SXSW in Austin, Texas, next month before streaming on Prime Video March 25.

The story follows five competitive ballerinas en route to a prestigious dance competition. Barely on speaking terms, their bus breaks down in a remote forest, leaving them stranded. They reluctantly seek refuge at a creepy roadside inn run by Devora Kasimer (Thurman), a reclusive former ballet prodigy.

From the moment they arrive, something is off—and their instincts are terrifyingly correct. As the situation spirals into deadly territory, the fractured team must set aside rivalries and weaponize years of rigorous training, turning grace, discipline, and even pointe shoes into lethal tools for survival.

The cast also includes Iris Apatow (This Is 40), Lana Condor (X-Men: Apocalypse), Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place), Avantika (Tarot), and Maddie Ziegler (My Old Ass), with Michael Culkin (Candyman) and Lydia Leonard (The Crown) rounding out the ensemble.

Directed by Vicky Jewson (The Witcher: Blood Origin) from a script by Kate Freund, the film blends horror, action, and dark comedy in a high-stakes ballet-fu showdown. Jewson explains, “In Pretty Lethal, I wanted to bring the highly specific skillset of a ballerina to the action space. We created a world built on the broken dreams of a dancer, played by the iconic Uma Thurman. Our incredible young cast allowed us to swing between horror, comedy, and action to create a breathless rollercoaster ride.”

Kelly McCormick (Bullet Train, Violent Night) produces alongside Mike Karz, William Bindley, and Piers Tempest.
