The Lumineers’ Jeremiah Fraites to Score Stephen King’s ‘The Long Walk’ Adaptation

Jeremiah Fraites, co-founder and songwriter of the Grammy-nominated band The Lumineers, is making his feature film scoring debut with The Long Walk, an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 dystopian novel, Variety has confirmed.

Directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) and written by JT Mollner (Strange Darling), the upcoming Lionsgate release hits theaters on September 12.

Fraites revealed that early conversations with Lawrence shaped the tone of the score: “Francis and I had a great initial call where we explored the sound. Strings and piano felt like the right emotional foundation, fitting for the kind of horror you’d expect from Stephen King. But the bigger challenge was capturing the emotional weight—the growing bonds between these boys during this relentless journey.”

Lawrence added that their creative collaboration began years ago, when The Lumineers contributed to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. “Jeremiah and I stayed in touch ever since,” he shared. “He’d send me vinyl copies of his solo work, and it was that music that made me think he’d be the perfect fit for The Long Walk.”

Fraites described the experience as a dream come true: “I’m forever grateful to Roy Lee and Francis for trusting me with this. Scoring a film like this—especially under the direction of someone I’ve admired for years—was a thrill beyond words.”

The Long Walk centers on 16-year-old Raymond Garraty (played by Licorice Pizza’s Cooper Hoffman), who joins a deadly endurance contest where 100 teenagers must walk nonstop under strict rules until only one remains alive.

The ensemble cast also includes David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus), Garrett Wareing (Manifest), Tut Nyout (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Charlie Plummer (The Clovehitch Killer), Ben Wang (Karate Kid: Legends), Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), Jordan Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin), Joshua Odjick (Welcome to Derry), Josh Hamilton (The Walking Dead), Judy Greer (Halloween), and Mark Hamill (The Life of Chuck).
