‘The Cure’ Trailer Reveals New Sci-Fi Horror Starring David Dastmalchian
Family isn’t always what it seems in the first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi horror thriller The Cure, starring David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and Samantha Cochran (V/H/S/Halloween).
The film centers on Ally Braun (Cochran), a 16-year-old girl suffering from a mysterious illness. But her condition may be the least of her problems. Ally soon uncovers a horrifying truth: her adoptive parents—wealthy biotech powerhouses played by Dastmalchian and Greene—may be using her as part of a disturbing medical experiment.
As Ally begins experiencing terrifying visions of grotesque procedures and twisted laboratory experiments, she realizes she must escape not only her worsening condition but also the heavily fortified island compound where she’s being held. If she fails, she risks losing everything that makes her human.
Nancy Leopardi directs the film from a screenplay by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, the writers behind the psychological thriller Unsane.
The cast also includes Sydney Taylor (“American Born Chinese”), Tyler Lawrence Gray (“Wolfpack”), Dylan Flashner (The Card Counter), and Bunny Levine (“Shameless”).
Leopardi also serves as producer alongside Bo Youngblood, John Ierardi, Natalie Marciano, and Rock Jacobs.
According to Leopardi, the film draws inspiration from classic sci-fi horror stories that explore the darker side of scientific advancement.
“The Cure is made in the tradition of classic horror and science-fiction films inspired by terrifying socio-political realities and advances in biotechnology,” Leopardi said. “Like Ex Machina, A.I., and Videodrome, we’re approaching a moment where revolutionary science raises a terrifying question—who will benefit from it?”
The Cure will have its world premiere at the Manchester Film Festival on March 21.
The film is set to release digitally in the UK on April 13 via Signature Entertainment, with a U.S. release expected to be announced soon by Vertical.
