Death doesn’t mean goodbye in The Black Phone universe—and neither does justice. Ethan Hawke returns as the sinister Grabber in The Black Phone 2, the chilling sequel from director Scott Derrickson, and the icy new trailer promises a terrifying new chapter in this supernatural saga.

“You thought our story was over?” The Grabber growls to a now-older Finney Blake (Mason Thames). “You of all people know… dead is just a word. Vengeance is mine.”

The Black Phone 2 haunts theaters beginning October 17, from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.

Official Synopsis:

“Four years ago, 13-year-old Finney escaped his abductor and became the lone survivor of The Grabber. But evil doesn’t stay buried, and now the black phone is ringing once more.

Ethan Hawke returns in the most terrifying role of his career, as The Grabber seeks revenge from beyond the grave, targeting Finney and his younger sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).

Now 17, Finney is still grappling with the trauma of his past. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving dreamlike calls from the black phone and disturbing visions of boys being hunted at a snowbound camp called Alpine Lake.

As Gwen tries to unravel the mystery, she convinces her reluctant brother to journey to the camp during a brutal winter storm—only to uncover chilling secrets that tie their family to The Grabber in horrifying ways.

Together, the siblings must face a killer who’s become more powerful in death—and more connected to them than they ever imagined.”

The cast also includes Oscar® nominee Demián Bichir (The Nun, A Better Life) as Alpine Lake’s watchful camp supervisor, Arianna Rivas (A Working Man) as his niece, and Miguel Mora, returning as the brother of one of The Grabber’s original victims. Jeremy Davies reprises his role as Finn and Gwen’s troubled father, with new cast members Maev Beaty (Beau is Afraid) and Graham Abbey (Under the Banner of Heaven) joining the ensemble.

Director Scott Derrickson returns behind the camera, co-writing the screenplay with longtime collaborator C. Robert Cargill. Joe Hill, author of the short story that inspired the original film, serves as executive producer.

Derrickson teased the sequel’s thematic shift, calling it “a high school coming-of-age movie, in the same way the first one was a middle school coming-of-age movie.”
