‘Strange Harvest’ Gets R Rating for Grisly, Disturbing Violence

Saban Films is set to unleash Strange Harvest, the new faux-true crime horror film from Grave Encounters writer-director Stuart Ortiz. The movie has officially been rated “R” for “disturbing/grisly violent content and language.”

Blending found footage, procedural tension, and ritualistic horror, Strange Harvest opens with a welfare check gone horribly wrong in the suburbs of San Bernardino. Inside the house, police find a family of three—bound, bled dry, and eerily posed beneath a blood-drawn symbol on the ceiling. Detectives Joe Kirby and Lexi Taylor quickly identify the mark as the signature of “Mr. Shiny,” a serial killer thought to have vanished 15 years ago. But it seems he’s back—and more terrifying than ever.

The cast includes Peter Zizzo, Terri Apple, Andy Lauer, Matthew Peschio, Janna Cardia, Thomas Wolfe Jr., Tim Shelburne, Christina Helene Bra, and LA Williams.

Described as a unique blend of horror and true crime, Strange Harvest promises an intense, cinematic experience. “Stuart has crafted the perfect film for horror and true crime fans,” said Saban Films co-presidents Jonathan Saba and Shanan Becker. “You have to experience this wild ride on the big screen.”

Ortiz echoed the sentiment: “It is my hope with Strange Harvest to take the audience on a hair-raising rollercoaster ride unlike any they’ve been on before—one that starts with a huge drop and has dozens of twists and turns they’ll never see coming.”

Early reviews hint at a chilling new entry in the horror landscape. Meagan Navarro writes, “Strange Harvest brings the creep factor, an impressively gruesome display of crime scenes, and a skin-crawling villain with cosmic machinations in mind. Ortiz pushes the subgenre forward with a heady and unsettling immersion into the realm of true crime, with a distinctly horror twist.”

Strange Harvest is coming soon—and it’s not for the faint of heart.
