SpectreVision Teams with Patrik Syversen for New Genre-Bender ‘Dawning’

Elijah Wood’s production company SpectreVision — founded with Daniel Noah and Lawrence Inglee — has partnered with Norwegian filmmaker Patrik Syversen on a new project titled Dawning, Deadline reports.

Described as a “Scandinavian prestige drama filtered through a horror prism,” Dawning explores dark family dynamics through an unsettling, genre-blending lens.

The film follows three sisters who retreat to their family’s remote vacation home after the youngest attempts suicide for the second time. When their abusive mother dies, the older siblings choose to hide the news to protect their sister. But their fragile peace is shattered when a mysterious man appears, shifting the story from quiet introspection to something far more primal and terrifying.

The cast includes Kathrine Thorborg Johansen (Power Play), Marte Magnusdotter Solem (Lovable), Thorbjørn Harr, and Steinar Klouman Hallert (Sick of Myself).

In a statement to Deadline, SpectreVision praised the film:

“We were completely knocked out by Dawning. The film shows a masterful command of its material, creating a fearless tone that is entirely its own — bold, riveting, poignant, and terrifying. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work together and can’t wait to see what comes next from this team. Patrik enters the next phase of his career as a major new voice in international cinema.”

Syversen echoed the enthusiasm:

“It’s an absolute honor to team up with SpectreVision. Their love for cinema and commitment to the subversive and idiosyncratic makes them a perfect fit for Dawning. This is a deeply personal film and feels like a new beginning for me as a filmmaker. I can’t think of a better partner for that journey.”

Wood, Noah, and Inglee serve as executive producers, with Syversen and cinematographer Andreas Johannessen (Rabbit Trap) producing.

SpectreVision is best known for its bold genre slate, including Mandy, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Daniel Isn’t Real, and The Greasy Strangler.

Dawning recently wrapped production. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
